CHEMISE, EYES, LIES
a video installation with image, sound and text

CHEMISE, EYES, LIES is a video projection installation in collaboration with acclaimed composer Veronika Krausas, who created a score with player piano.

The alternate name for this piece could be Ominous Hilarious Calamitous. As though the tip of her finger casts a spell that at first seems playful and capricious - a flirtatious morning in a sunlit boudoir - but reveals a glimpse at something sinister and deranged before slipping it quickly away from view.

A startlingly embodied, charismatic woman duels with a disengenuous, authoritative textual voice whose pink color seems also a disguise, as though camoflaging itself in her boudoir. The violent lunacy of the player piano somehow dodges between them, as though the ominous hilarious calamitous incandation spurred the instrument towards a possessed expression of sound.

I wanted to move through a piece where the music, the image, and the text clearly reveal a struggle for power and control within their cinematic relationship. Where each form paries and attacks with a disturbing combination of subterfuge, seduction, aggression, and defenselessness.

CHEMISE, EYES, LIES is forthcoming on DVD by Catalysis Projects, which is releasing a collection of Wikswo's video installations.
